This is going to be a bit long winded , my Kia Rio wont start, it started been intimately but now wont start ar all unless I bump it, then start it every hour and it starts, leave it up to 3 hours and I have to bump it off again. bought a new batter and plug.
car is a 2013 Kia Ceed, 1.4 with manual transmission happened about 3-4 times in the last year, started happening this year each time I got it going by push starting the car, and afterwards the car worked problem free for months in-between, no problems starting, just these few times
You could try starter fluid in the intake, and if it starts then turn your focus to fuel delivery, if it doesn't then you need to check for spark at the plugs and injector pulses. My diesel runs the glow plugs for about 10 seconds, and I usually hit the starter at about 7 secs. They do go off after the light goes out, so cranking the starter after that tends to just flatten the battery. So it is better to re-cycle the glow plugs - a question of understanding the vehicle.

If your battery is older than 2 yrs it could be down a bit. A diesel engine needs to spin fast enough to build up enough compression. Cold weather contracts metal, piston/piston rings contract thus failing to build compression. Engine wont start - battery OK. I have a 2010 Ceed 1.6 diesel which had a clutch and crank shaft sensor replaced 3 weeks ago. Since then i have seen a deterioration in the starting behavior - i.e. long cranks before start up and then clicking noises. Thinking it was the battery I took it out and had it charged. This is a simple fix and can be done by following these steps: First, turn the Kia to the on position but do not start it. Once the dash lights come on, navigate to the service menu.
